Composer and pianist Paata Demurishvili was born in Telavi, in the Soviet Republic of Georgia. He began playing piano at the age of four. By 14, he had already won his first national contest. The following year he enrolled in the Music-School for Gifted in Tbilisi. Various solo performances and concerts with the national radio orchestra followed. He studied at the National Academy of Music under Professor Wanda Schiukashvili and received honorable mention as one of the best classical pianists of the Soviet Union.

In 1986 , an injury to the little finger of his right hand ended his career as a classical pianist. However, Paata’s talent helped him find a new career and he spent 5 years as a successful arranger for film and incidental music. During this time he discovered Oscar Peterson and jazz - still strictly forbidden under the Soviets. This was a complete new world to explore.

In search of artistic and physical freedom, Paata relocated to Germany in 19991 where he found a second musical home. It was here that he developed and cultivated his personal style of crossover playing by improvising on classical themes, jazz standards or Georgian folk-songs.

His improvisations on Bach demonstrate vitality, virtuosity and a deep-rooted passion for musical art. These attributes are essential elements of his unique compositions and arrangements.

Paata aims to express various musical genres in the language of Jazz. In reviews, his art is described - simply but accurately - as "breathtaking."

From 2003-2007 he was a teacher for Jazz and Classic at the Academy of Music in Mannheim, Germany.

Since 2007 his main focus has been on his solo career, performing improvisations under the motto "Classic meets Jazz".
